Ten years ago, courageous leaders, Lola Smallwood Cuevas and Lanita Morris, blazed a trail by bringing together Black union and community leaders to form the Los Angeles Black Worker Center, the first in California. From our humble beginnings, we became a major voice in local, state, and national conversations about employment, unemployment, and working conditions for Black Workers.

Since 2009, Black workers have come together to win an agreement with Metro that put more Black people to work on the Crenshaw line than ever before. Black workers worked in coalition to address employment discrimination by improving standards during construction at MLK hospital, and pushed City Hall to establish the Civil and Human Rights Commission in Los Angeles. Black workers have educated lawmakers in Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Washington DC on the critical need to protect civil rights. Rooted in our short but strong history, Black workers are ready to take it to the next level fighting discrimination and transforming “bad” jobs into fulfilling careers. Will you come with us?

Join us during Women's History Month as we honor

Lola Smallwood Cuevas
Lanita Morris

and the collective they marshaled at the
Rooted & Still Rising” 10th Year Anniversary Celebration!
On Thursday, March 12 at 6pm, at the Regency West, 3339 W. 43rd Street, Los Angeles.

We would be honored if you would join us in our celebration as a sponsor. Your gift will support strategic leadership training of LABWC activists in 2020 to help build and expand grassroots organizing and Black worker leadership in Los Angeles. As a sponsor, you will also be listed on all promotional materials and announcements at the event and receive VIP Tickets!

2020 will be a pivotal year for Black workers with the possible outcomes of upcoming elections, ensuring the count of Black families, and pressing against gentrification of our neighborhoods, all during a time of unprecedented income inequality and houselessness in Los Angeles. The need for Black workers to build power to determine their fate is stronger than ever.

Together, we will nurture our roots and rise to fight for real jobs, real skills, real protections and real change for Black Workers!
